Tips for Making Sure Your Kitchen is Ready for the Holidays

Get your kitchen ready for the holidays with these tips!

The holidays are here again! That means fun holiday gatherings and parties with friends and loved ones, and lots and lots of cooking. If you are hosting a holiday gathering or party, your kitchen is going to see a lot of use. Get your kitchen ready for the holidays with these tips!

De-Clutter Your Counters

If you have mail, school or other papers, or anything else lying around on your counters, it’s time to file them away. Nothing will make preparing food for your holiday gatherings more challenging than trying to work around clutter.

Prepare Your Oven

Running the self-clean cycle on your oven actually puts quite a lot of stress on it, which is not something you want to do just before the holidays when you will be using it a lot. Instead of the self-clean cycle, just use a wet rag and wipe down what you can. Leave the heavy duty cleaning for after the new year.

Give Your Refrigerator a Thorough Cleaning

Your refrigerator is going to see a lot of traffic this holiday season. It will be opened and closed constantly and filled up with heavy dishes. Make sure air flow vents are clear, tighten any gaskets or handles that may have come loose, and replace any burned-out light bulbs. You may want to also remove the shelves one by one and wash them with dish soap and warm water. Dry them with a regular dish towel and place them back into the refrigerator for a sparkling clean look!

Clean and Disinfect Garbage and Recycling Bins

No matter how careful you are, food particles always find a way onto your garbage and recycling bins. Take them outside and clean them with a garden hose and dish soap. You can disinfect them with some spray or wipes. You should also make sure that you’re stocked up with plenty of trash bags.

Inspect Your Dishwasher

Along with your refrigerator and oven, your dishwasher is also going to get a lot of use during the holidays. Make sure there is nothing loose, clean out any residue, and look at the bottom to make sure there’s nothing lost or broken down there. Wiping it out with a solution of white vinegar and water should do the trick.
